EVA Air embraces core values that promote safe and punctual flights, friendly and professional services and innovative, efficient operations

Constant Innovation

Evergreen Group Chairman and Founder Dr. Chang Yung-Fa established EVA Air in March 1989, lifting the impeccable transportation heritage and tradition of quality service of older sister and container-shipping leader Evergreen Line to new heights. Within a few months, he placed orders with the Boeing Company and McDonnell Douglas for 26 aircraft at a purchase value of US $3.6 billion, quickly catching the attention of the global aviation industry. Both companies are part of the Evergreen Group.

Spreading Wings, Transforming Dreams

We have had lofty goals since EVA made its maiden flight on July 1, 1991. Now, our network spans the globe, stretching from Asia and China to Europe, North America and Oceania, and links more than 60 cities. We provide regular cross-strait China service in concert with our subsidiary, UNI Air, and have carefully developed alliances with major carriers that extend our passenger and cargo operations around worldwide.

In June 2013, EVA became a Star Alliance member, giving our passengers access to a vast network of nearly 1,400 destinations in more than 190 countries and providing seamless global services. We also offer the added benefits of geographic advantages as Taiwan steadily gains status as the Asia-Pacific’s transportation hub.

Innovation and Attention to Detail

Embracing the Evergreen Group's corporate culture and encouragement of innovation, challenge and teamwork, EVA established core values that include safe, punctual flights, friendly professional services and efficient, innovative operations. We led the airline industry in 1992 by introducing one of the very first premium economy services. Now named Elite Class, it continues to be emulated by other carriers around the world. We upgraded Elite Class further with all of the latest technologies in 2005 when we began adding brand-new Boeing 777-300ERs to our fleet.

We rolled out Premium Laurel Class, a comfortable, technologically advanced business cabin, in 2003 when we began acquiring Airbus 330-200s and upgraded this service further in 2005 when we took delivery of our first 777-300ERs. At the same time, we gave every passenger on these aircraft in-seat Audio/Video on Demand (AVOD) systems with movies, features, music, video games, shopping and Short Message Service.

Starting in 2012, we began unveiling our luxurious new-generation business cabin, Royal Laurel Class. With five-star service and amenities that resemble other carriers’ first class, Royal Laurel Class passengers travel in seats configured in a reverse herringbone that recline 180 degrees and stretch out as much as 79 inches. By simply touching the controls, they can create a cozy inflight cocoon for rest or work or slide forward to enjoy the company of a travel companion. For even greater comfort, we added thoughtful features such as lumbar supports, retractable armrests, coat hooks, space for shoe stowage and convenient seat-side tables for beverages, snacks or writing materials, all within easy reach.

We also make flying fun. In 2005 and again in 2011, we teamed up with Japan’s Sanrio Corp. to introduce our unique EVA Hello Kitty Jets. Aboard these aircraft, we make every flight cheerful with our brightly painted aircraft liveries and more than 100 in-flight service items. Flights on our EVA Hello Kitty Jets are memorable experiences for passengers from the moment they board. And again, EVA hit a marketing home run with innovation and enthusiasm.

Making Flight Safety Our Priority

EVA uses technologically advanced flight analysis equipment such as Aircraft Condition Monitoring Systems (ACMS) and Aircraft Communications Addressing & Reporting Systems (ACARS) to track aircraft operations, engine conditions and flight performance. And we’ve equipped our new Boeing 777s with state-of-the-art Electronic Flight Bags, creating a paperless cockpit and providing even higher levels of safety, security and efficiency.
EVA has been recognized worldwide for flight safety and reliability since we began operating. EVA Cargo is consistently entrusted with priceless art works from world-class museums and endangered species from preservation organizations. We began to build this legacy by transporting an irreplaceable 1995 exhibit from the Louvre. Around the same time, we carried orangutans from Indonesia’s dwindling population to the safety and security of a new home. Time after time, we are honored to be singled out as the best choice to transport precious cargo.
EVA has also been distinguished by countless awards and honors. Since 2004, we have repeatedly been ranked as one of the world’s 10 safest airlines by the German aviation publication, Aero International. In 2010 and 2012, readers of US-based Travel + Leisure magazine voted EVA as one of the top-10 world’s best airlines. And in 2012, air travelers responding to the SKYTRAX 2012 World Airline Awards survey singled out EVA for the Best Airline Staff Service in Asia.

Our Global Future

Just as EVA’s commitment to exemplary safety and service standards has earned honors, awards and recognition from domestic and international media, aviation industry groups, travel organizations and government agencies, it has paved the way for our growing service network and loyal passengers worldwide. These distinctions and our passengers tell us that our focus on safety and service quality is valued and give added meaning to our slogan, Sharing the World, Flying Together.
