EVA, Sanrio Unveil Second Generation Hello Kitty Jet Aircraft

EVA Air has teamed up with Sanrio to launch a second generation of Hello Kitty Jets.  Company officials and approximately 450 invited guests, including tourism, airfreight and aviation industry representatives, EVA Air Diamond Card frequent flyers, Hello Kitty fans and media celebrated the unveiling today (on Oct. 27, 2011) at a Happy Magic Party in a specially decorated Evergreen Aviation Technologies hangar adjacent to Taipei, Taiwan’s Taoyuan International Airport.  More about EVA’s second-generation Hello Kitty Jets is available at

Light, magical and fun, the party was hosted by EVA Air President Kuo-Wei Chang and Sanrio Vice President Tsuji Kunihiko. The winner of a Golden Melody Award from Taiwan sang and Harmonyland dancers from Japan joined EVA flight attendants in an energetic performance.  Then, as guests waved illuminated wands, cheered and clapped, the new Hello Kitty Jet made a dramatic appearance from behind raised curtains.

Second-generation Hello Kitty Jets come in threes

EVA is creating three new Hello Kitty Jets as a special encore for its 20th anniversary this year (2011) and has selected new Airbus 330-300s for the transformation.  White with the exception of green tails and the EVA logo, the aircraft are giant airborne canvases for Hello Kitty and her friends. The new logojets will be painted the length of the fuselages on both sides with images of the irresistible Hello Kitty and her charming friends. Onboard, passengers will be treated to elaborately decorated Hello Kitty cabins and character-themed service items.

The new logojets are themed Magic Jet, Apple Jet and Global Jet. The newly unveiled Magic Jet has a Hello Kitty with Magic Stars concept. Perched on the fuselage, Hello Kitty waves her magic wand, sprinkling shining stars and heralding the start of a happy journey.   Hello Kitty’s friends and family members join her on the aircraft in a cheerful representation of friendship and love.

The concept that inspires the Apple Jet is Hello Kitty Loves Apples. The apple is the symbol for Hello Kitty. Hello Kitty is five apples tall and weighs three apples. Her favorite food is her mother’s homemade apple pie.  Along the fuselage of this aircraft, a colorful display of red and green apples suggests the teamwork between EVA and Hello Kitty.  From take-off to landing, Hello Kitty and her friends carry sweet apples and accompany passengers on a pleasant flight.

The third aircraft, the Global Jet tells the heartwarming story of Hello Kitty Around the World and illustrates EVA’s role in bringing the world closer together. Well-known landmarks from different countries decorate the length of the plane while Hello Kitty extends an open invitation to join her on her world travels for a lifetime of cherished memories.

The Magic Jet is being introduced on EVA flights between Taipei and Sapporo in Hokkaido, Japan on Oct. 31. The Apple Jet and Global Jet are scheduled to debut later this year on EVA’s routes from Taipei to Fukuoka, Tokyo and Seoul.
The airline has worked with travel agencies to develop a range of packages to give passengers fresh, new experiences and memorable trips. It will offer more Hello Kitty-related service packages and products in the future.

Hello Kitty Jets continue to captivate

Following the precedent established with EVA’s two first-generation Hello Kitty Jets, the airline is applying the irrepressible character’s theme to the design of more than 100 in-flight service items.  At check-in, passengers on these aircraft are greeted by Hello Kitty boarding passes and baggage stickers.  Onboard, they’ll discover Hello Kitty headrest covers, tissue, paper cups, utensils, milk bottles, snacks, hand-washing liquid, hand lotion, meals and ice cream. Flight attendants wear Hello Kitty aprons and special insignias on their uniforms.  And at intervals, EVA will offer a series of limited-edition Hello Kitty duty-free products, enabling fans to acquire collectibles and enjoy happy journeys at the same time.

EVA Hello Kitty Jet website tells the story

A dedicated EVA Hello Kitty Jet website has been launched at Fans can check Hello Kitty Jet flight schedules, details of the latest travel packages and more. They can also download Hello Kitty Jet wallpaper and keep up-to-date on availability of Hello Kitty duty-free items.  As a special bonus, the website features The Story of Logojets video about the origin of EVA’s popular Hello Kitty Jets.

These three luxurious new aircraft are EVA’s first A330-300s. Each one is configured with 30 seats in Premium Laurel Class and 279 in Economy Class.  The in-seat audio video on demand (AVOD) entertainment system has been updated so that, along with the Hello Kitty theme, passengers enjoy a simpler, more user-friendly interface and upgrades that enhance use of personal devices. The 15.4-inch touch screen enables passengers to browse photos and listen to their favorite music using Photo Viewer, PDF viewer and Media Player on personal devices.

Premium Laurel Class seats easily convert into a nearly flat position and seat pitch has been increased to 62 inches (157cm).  There are also 110V electrical outlets and ports for personal electronic devices that are iPod, USB and RCA compatible.

Pitch in Economy Class is 32 inches (81cm) and seats are designed so that electronic boxes don’t take up space underneath them, giving passengers more legroom.  There’s also a 9-inch touch screen, a 110V electrical outlet and USB port at every seat.

EVA equipped its A330-300s with the latest Panasonic eX2 AVOD. In addition to a 3D data display system that presents flight information in vibrant, colorful images, the system offers a new Connecting Gate Information (CGI) function that allows passengers to check information about connecting flights, arrival terminals and baggage carousel location.
