EVA’S New Boeing 777-300ER Center Stage at Farnborough
Airline’s advanced aircraft on display at airshow

FARNBOROUGH, UK, (17 July, 2006) – In cooperation with the Boeing Company, EVA Air is  showcasing one of its new, super-wide bodied B777-300ERs at the Farnborough International Airshow (FIA) 2006 today (July 17) through July 23.  Boeing and the airline have a special charter arrangement for use of the advanced aircraft at the prestigious aerospace-industry event.

Highlighting opening day at FIA and adding to festivities surrounding display of the B777-300ER, EVA is presenting a troupe of traditional Dragon Dancers in charming, colorful performances.  On the airshow’s closing day, EVA will take its magnificent B777-300ER aloft for a dramatic fly-past before placing the aircraft back in service on its London Heathrow-Bangkok-Taipei route.

As a launch customer for Boeing’s 777-300ERs, EVA worked hand-in-hand with the manufacturer to develop and design the state-of-the-art aircraft.  The result meets both EVA’s exacting specifications and today’s travelers’ evolving needs.
EVA’s first B777-300ER, delivered in 2005, was also the carrier’s first painted aircraft. The B777 livery keeps the Evergreen Group’s signature green on the belly and tail, but alternates a lighter shade with a warm, vibrant orange in a variegated swoosh that undulates along the length of the fuselage. A painstaking tinting process was also used to incorporate the aircraft’s model identification into the design, and EVA Air 777-300ER is boldly emblazoned in giant characters on both sides.
The B777-300ER is the largest twin-engine commercial aircraft currently in operation.  Its high efficiency and low fuel consumption with accompanying economic and environmental advantages make it stand out in this era of sky-high fuel prices. The 777’s twin-engine design and lighter structural weight equip it to use 20-to-25% less fuel per passenger than comparably sized four-engine aircraft.  Innovative raked tips extend each of its wings an additional 6.5 feet, improving the aircraft’s aerodynamic efficiency, enabling it to take off on shorter runways and increasing climb performance, in addition to reducing fuel burn.
EVA selected General Electric’s GE90-115Bs, the world’s quietest and most powerful commercial jet engines, for its B777-300ERs.  The engine’s dual distinctions are due to design and engineering innovations, including unique composite swept fan blades made from carbon fibre polymeric and finished on the leading edges with titanium.
EVA outfitted its B777-300ER cockpits with Boeing Electronic Fight Bags (EFB), technologically advanced devices that hold all the documentation and charts pilot need to carry and effectively create a paperless flight deck. The EFB also features geo-referencing technology with airport taxi charts for enhanced runway situational awareness, an on-board performance tool for calculating ideal speeds and engine settings, and a view option for the flight-deck door area. EVA led the industry in use of the EFB by equipping its first B777-300ER simulator with the device and giving its flight crews opportunities to gain expertise with the technology at the training center as well as in the air.
EVA deployed its first two B777-300ERs on its Taipei – Bangkok - London route in 2005 and is placing a third in service, Taipei – Los Angeles, this month (July 2006).  Within the next 10 years, the majority of aircraft in EVA’s long-haul fleet will be B777s.
To maximize passenger benefits created by B777-300ER cabins that are the most spacious ever built, EVA uses a three-class configuration that accommodates as many as 316 passengers in a Premium Laurel top cabin, Elite premium economy and Economy. EVA’s exceptionally comfortable cabins also give individual passengers access to the airline’s own personal interactive audio visual on demand system and digital air-to-ground Short Message Service (SMS).
EVA is Taiwan’s leading independently owned and operated airline and part of the respected Evergreen Group, a company known worldwide for its transportation expertise and exceptional service.  The airline operates three B777-300ERs now and has nine more scheduled for deliveries at intervals through June 2009.
EVA was founded in March 1989 and serves 44 destinations across four continents from a strategically positioned hub in Taipei, Taiwan.  The airline’s fleet of 50 aircraft comprises six Boeing 747-400s, nine Boeing 747-400 combis, three Boeing 747-400 freighters, 14 McDonnell Douglas MD-11 freighters, four McDonnell Douglas MD-90s, three Boeing 777-300ERs and 11 Airbus 330-200s.
