Urgent security announcement for passengers using UK and US airports

*Please be sure to check the latest information below before you go to the airport because the US and UK authorities revise the regulations frequently.

For passengers transiting at or traveling from the UK (revised on Nov. 10)

In comply with regulations issued by U.K. Department of Transport, on all flights depart from U.K. and passengers transit at U.K. shall follow the following regulations from 6 November, 2006.

Passengers may carry a limited quantity of liquids i.e. gels, lotions, pastes, liquid cosmetics, foams and foodstuffs in their hand baggage when going through airport security checkpoints.

Heightened security restrictions remain at all UK airports. All passengers will be subject to hand baggage restrictions, and are asked to be patient while these additional security measures are in place, and allow extra time for their journey and to arrive at the airport prepared for the security restrictions.

Here is a guide to the security restrictions which will be in place at all our airports:.

Hand baggage restrictions:

Passengers are allowed to carry ONE item of hand baggage through the airport security search point, no larger than 56cm tall x 45cm wide x 25cm deep (22" tall × 17.5" wide × 9.85" deep)

Please note that other bags, such as handbags, may be carried WITHIN the single item of cabin baggage - not in addition. All items carried by passengers will be X-ray screened. Cameras, (including digital, small electrical items such as mobile phones, MP3 players and Gameboys can remain in the bag for screening. However, all laptops and large electrical items must be removed from the bag and placed in a separate tray.

New rules for taking liquids through airport security:

  • All liquids, gels, and aerosols must be in individual containers not greater than 100ml capacity.
  • All containers must be placed in one transparent re-sealable transparent bag, no larger than 20cm x 20cm (8" x 8") in size. The containers must fit comfortably inside the bag so it can be fastened closed. 
  • Only one bag per passenger is allowed. The bag must be clear and re-sealable, such as ‘ziplock’ bags or bags with pressable seals. Larger bags or bags that are sealable are not allowed.
  • Each passenger must remove their clear plastic bag from their hand baggage and place it in on the conveyor belt for X-ray screening. 
  • Liquids in containers of more than 100ml capacity can be packed in your checked in baggage.

Further passenger information:

  • Pushchairs and walking aids will be X-ray screened 
  • Wheelchairs are permitted but will be thoroughly searched 
  • Exemptions to the liquids rule applies for liquid medicine or baby milk/food
  • Items purchased before security must fit into your ONE item of hand baggage and the restrictions on liquids also apply. After the security check, passengers are able to take all items purchased in the departures lounge onboard the aircraft.



For passengers traveling to and from the US (revised on Nov. 10)

THE FOLLOWING RESTRICTIONS APPLY TO LIQUIDS, GELS, AND/OR AEROSOLS AT THE PASSENGER SCREENING CHECKPOINT

  • No liquids, gels, and/or aerosols are permitted EXCEPT one clear transparent resealable 1 quart (1 liter) size plastic bag containing liquids, gels, and/or aerosols in travel size containers of 3.4 oz. (100ml) capacity or less per container.  The contents of the plastic bag must fit comfortably and the plastic bag must be completely closed/sealed and subjected to visual inspection or x-ray inspection separate from passenger’s carry-on bag.
  • You may have the items listed below, but you must declare them to screening personnel at the screening checkpoint if they are not fit in the closed/sealed 1 quart (1 liter) size plastic bag and/or the size of the containers exceeds travel size 3.4 oz. (100ml).

    • Baby formula/milk (to include breast milk) and baby food/juice in containers if a baby or small child is traveling
    • Medications (liquid, gels, and/or aerosol)
    • Liquids (to include juice) or gels for diabetic or other medical needs

  •  All other liquids, gels, and/or aerosols may be transported in checked baggage.

Liquids (including beverages), gels, and/or aerosols purchased in the sterile area may be carried
onboard the aircraft
