Latest Entry Restrictions and Disease Prevention Regulations of Various Countries in Response to the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) Outbreak

In response to the latest resolution issued by the National Communicable Disease Committee and the Ministry of Public Health of Thailand, effective from May 27, 2026, at 18:00 (Thailand Local Time), the Government of Thailand has officially designated the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Republic of Uganda as affected areas for Ebola Virus Disease .

In compliance with local Thai epidemic prevention regulations, all passengers whose itineraries include departure from or transit through these two countries will be subject to strict entry and health declaration screenings upon arrival in Thailand. Please note that entry for these passengers is currently restricted exclusively to Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport.

To ensure a smooth journey and compliance with local regulations, passengers meeting the criteria above must complete the Thai government's online health declaration based on their nationality prior to checking in at the airport.

Please be advised that any passenger confirmed to have departed from or transited through the Democratic Republic of the Congo or the Republic of Uganda will be required to undergo a mandatory 21-day quarantine upon arrival in Thailand, with the quarantine period calculated starting from the day of departure from the affected area.

Canada Entry Regulations

  • Suspension of Visas and eTA: Effective May 27, 2026 (23:59 EDT), Canada will temporarily suspend Temporary Resident Visas (TRV), eTA authorizations, and Permanent Resident Visas for nationals/residents of the affected countries for an initial period of 90 days.
  • Mandatory Quarantine and Enhanced Screening: Effective May 30, 2026 (23:59 EDT) through August 29, 2026, any person, including Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or foreign nationals, who has been present in the affected countries within the previous 21 days may be subject to mandatory 21-day quarantine requirements upon arrival in Canada under the Quarantine Act. Transport Canada / PHAC may enhance passenger health screening, travel history verification, and secondary inspection procedures at Canadian airports.

U.S. Entry Regulations

In accordance with the latest epidemic prevention and border control policies implemented by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), effective 11:59 p.m. EDT on May 20, 2026, entry restrictions into the United States apply to non-U.S. citizens who have been present in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Uganda, or South Sudan within the last 21 days.

Exempted individuals (e.g., U.S. citizens and Lawful Permanent Residents) with travel history to any of the aforementioned countries are permitted to enter but must legally arrive through designated U.S. airports for enhanced public health screening by the CDC. The currently designated U.S. airports and their effective dates are as follows:

  • Washington-Dulles International Airport (IAD): Effective May 20, 2026.
  • Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL): Effective May 22, 2026.
  • George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH): Effective May 26, 2026.
