Award-Winning Rice Now Served Inflight
Since 2015, EVA Air has served rice from Chishang in Taitung County on its flights, sharing with passengers the taste of Taiwan’s premier rice-growing region. This month, we offer passengers in Royal Laurel / Premium Laurel / Business Class on flights from Taipei rice harvested by Hsieh Mei-kuo, who recently won the Gold Prize at the 21st International Contest on Rice Taste Evaluation in Japan.
Now aged 88, Hsieh has over 60 years of rice-farming experience. His rice was entered into the machine analysis and taste-test competition without his knowledge. The rice emerged triumphant from a pool of nearly 2,000 contestants and over 50 varieties representing different regions of Japan, earning the highest number of votes and winning the Gold Prize.
This marked the first time since the inception of the contest that the Gold Prize was awarded to a non-Japanese entrant. Don’t miss this opportunity to taste champion rice recognized for its unparalleled flavor.
