Okinawa
Okinawa is the southernmost prefecture of Japan on the Ryukyu Islands chain. It extends over about 600 miles from Kyushu to Taiwan. The biggest landmark in Okinawa is Shuri Castle. This castle was the palace of the Ryukyu Kingdom. After major destruction during the World War II, it was rebuilt but the main structure of the castle was again destroyed by fire in 2019. Apart from the historical sites, the waters around Okinawa are perfect for water sports, you can visit the subtropical beaches and coastlines with their marine life and coral reefs. Whale watching, scuba diving and snorkeling are the most popular things to do in Okinawa.
