Kunming
Kunming, the capital of Yunnan province, in southwestern China, is the cultural, political, economic and transportation center of Yunnan. Kunming is a gateway between southwest China and southeast Asia. From Kunming visitors can visit Shangri-La to the west and Xishuangbanna to the south. Situated in a mountainous area with a pleasant climate, Kunming attracts large numbers of tourists who enjoy the spectacular and unique scenery. During World War II, it was the airbase of the famous First American Volunteer Group of the Chinese Air Force, the Flying Tigers, and the transport terminus for the Burma Road. It also houses several museums, galleries and universities. Besides Kunming's scenery and history, you can enjoy the Yunnan cuisine and visit the Flower and Bird Market.
