Musical Instruments

Checked Baggage

  • When musical instruments are checked as normal baggage and exceed your free baggage allowance, you may need to pay excess baggage fee.
  • Musical instruments carried as check-in baggage must be kept inside sturdy and protective hard cases. Musical instruments in soft bags (gig bags) will not be accepted.
  • Large-sized musical instruments such as double bass and cellos are accepted as checked baggage only if they cannot be accommodated in the cabin. If the dimension and weight of the musical instrument can be accepted as Cabin Baggage (CBBG), you can purchase an extra seat for storing it in cabin instead of checking it in.
  • You are required to sign limited release tags for all checked musical instruments due to their fragile nature. If your musical instruments have high value, it is recommended that you purchase the baggage insurance before travel, which may provide you with a more comprehensive insurance coverage.

Carry-on Baggage

  • Each passenger is allowed to bring one small musical instrument onboard as part of their carry-on baggage allowance. Its total dimensions, including the case, should not exceed 125cm (49in), and the weight must be under 7kg (15lbs).
  • Carry on small musical instrument should be placed in a sturdy and protective instrument case. And it should be stored in the shared overhead bins or under the seat in front of you. With the exception of certain disability assistance devices, onboard stowage space is offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • If there is no available cabin space at the time of boarding, your musical instrument will need to be checked in.
  • You may also purchase an extra seat to keep musical instrument in the cabin. Please inform EVA Air at least 48 hours before departure if you wish to pre-book the cabin baggage service. For more information, please refer to our Regulation for Cabin Baggage

Notes

Due to temperature variations, expansion and contraction of the neck of stringed instruments may occur. You are advised to have the strings loosened to avoid damage.
