Excess Baggage Charges

Weight Concept Excess Baggage Fee Chart (only APPLY when a ticket is shown in KG, exclude any country using piece concept)

It is divided into FOUR zones (Zone1~4). The excess charge is calculated per kilogram (2.2 lb) on a Zone Basis. If single baggage is oversized, a passenger also needs to pay an additional fee. The baggage fees are collected in the equivalent local currency.

Additional Charge for Weight Concept

Under Weight Concept, if the total linear dimensions (sum of length/width/height) of your baggage are over 203 cm (80 in), you will be charged an oversized fee USD150. Pets, mobility aids and sporting equipment have other regulations. 

Example:

If you travel economy class from Taipei to Hong Kong with 30 KG baggage allowance, and check in 1 piece of baggage (32 kg/dimensions 150 cm) and a painting (8 kg /dimensions 210 cm). You will be charged the excess baggage fee USD 80 (10 kg x USD 8) and the oversized fee USD 150, totally USD 230.

It is divided into SEVEN zones (Zone1~7). Excess baggage charge is calculated per piece (under 23 kg) on a Zone Basis. If a single piece of baggage is overweight or oversized, you also need to pay an additional fee. The baggage fees are collected in the equivalent local currency.

Additional Charges for Piece Concept

Overweight

  • 23 kg < Weight ≦32 kg: USD 80/CAD 100 
  • Weight > 32 kg: 3 times of extra baggage charge per piece

Oversized

  • 158 cm <Dimensions≦203 cm: USD 150/CAD 190 
  • Dimensions > 203 cm: USD 300/CAD 380


Special Baggage

When special baggage is checked as normal baggage and exceed your free baggage allowance, you may need to pay excess baggage fee. If your checked baggage contains valuable contents, it is recommended that you purchase the baggage insurance before travel, which may provide you with a more comprehensive insurance coverage. Clothes or other personal items should not be packed with passengers’ sporting goods in the containers. Refer to the special baggage list below, some different regulations and charges apply to special baggage, you can contact EVA Air reservations 48 hours for more details prior to your departure.

Sporting equipment

  • Angling/Fishing Equipment
    • Pre-advise EVA Air at the time of booking.
    • Regardless of the actual dimensions may be considered as a piece of baggage at 158 cm/62 in (one piece only per passenger).
    • Including one fishing tackle box, one landing net, one pair of fishing boots (all properly encased), one reel, 2 rods 
    • All items must be properly encased in a suitable container. 
  • Archery Equipment
    • Pre-advise EVA Air at the time of booking.
    • Regardless of the actual dimensions may be considered as a piece of baggage at 158 cm/62 in (one piece only per passenger). 

    • One item of archery equipment per customer as checked baggage.
    • All items must be properly encased in a suitable container.
    • Including one bow case containing bows, one quiver with arrows, maintenance kit of sufficient strength to protect items from accidental damage.
  • Bicycle
    • Pre-advise EVA Air at the time of booking.
    • Regardless of the actual dimensions may be considered as a piece of baggage at 158 cm/62 in (one piece only per passenger).
    • For non-motorized touring and racing single-seat bicycle, before the bicycle is checked, the tires need to be deflated. Rotate handle to 90 degrees and tighten, remove or turn the pedals inside. 
    • The packaging should be based on the principle of protecting the bicycle during transportation and not causing damage due to normal collision. It is recommended to use a hard shell bike travel bag.
    • EVA Air reserves the right to refuse delivery if other easily damage packaging methods are used.
    • EVA Air will not be liable if the bicycle is not properly packed or protected from damage. 
    • Electric bicycles are unacceptable if the equipment containing batteries.
  • Bowling Equipment
    • Regardless of the actual dimensions may be considered as a piece of baggage at 158 cm/62 in (one piece only per passenger).
    • Including one bowling ball, one bowling bag and one pair of bowling shoes.
    • All items must be properly encased in a suitable container.
  • Canoe
    • Pre-advise EVA Air the weight and dimension of baggage in order to check if cargo compartment space is available at the time of booking.
    • Shall be collected excess baggage charge by the length of each bag if it’s oversize than 158 cm. If the oversize bag is also involved extra piece or/and overweight, each charge should be collected.  
  • Golf  
    • Regardless of the actual dimensions may be considered as a piece of baggage at 158 cm/62 in (one piece only per passenger).
    • Including one set of golf clubs and one pair of golf shoes.
    • All items must be properly encased in a suitable container. The golf bag must be covered or enclosed in a heavy, rigid carrying case.  
  • Hang-gliding Equipment
    • Pre-advise EVA Air at the time of booking.
    • Including the glider itself, one harness and one helmet.
    • Pack up in to a glider bag or other suitable bag.
    • Shall be collected excess baggage charge by the length of each bag if it’s oversize than 158 cm/62 in. If the oversize bag is also involved extra piece or/and overweight, each charge should be collected.  
  • Hockey/Lacrosse Equipment
    • Regardless of the actual dimensions may be considered as a piece of baggage at 158 cm/62 in (one piece only per passenger). One equipment bag and a maximum of two sticks taped together will count as one piece of baggage. Hockey sticks must be packed separately from hockey equipment in a hard-sided container or sporting bag.
    • Hockey (e.g. field hockey/ice hockey) , ringette, lacrosse and football equipment: one helmet, a puck/ring/football/stick, a set of pads, and a pair of cleats, shoes or skates are included as part of one accepted set, per guest.
  • Kitesurfing Equipment  

    • Pre-advise EVA Air at the time of booking.
    • Including one kiteboard and a pair of kites and lines.
    • Pack up in to a concertina bag or other suitable bag.
    • Shall be collected excess baggage charge by the length of each bag if it’s oversize than 158 cm/62 in. If the oversize bag is also involved extra piece or/and overweight, each charge should be collected.  
  • Paragliding Equipment  

    • Pre-advise EVA Air at the time of booking.
    • Including one wing, one harness, one safety helmet and emergency reserve system (parachute)
    • Pack up in to a concertina bag or other suitable bag.
    • Shall be collected excess baggage charge by the length of each bag if it’s oversize than 158 cm/62 in. If the oversize bag is also involved extra piece or/and overweight, each charge should be collected. 
  • Scuba Diving Equipment 

    • Pre-advise EVA Air at the time of booking.
    • Regardless of the actual dimensions may be considered as a piece of baggage at 158 cm/62 in (one piece only per passenger).
    • Including one empty scuba tank, one scuba regulator, one tank harness, one tank pressure gauge, one mask, two fins, one snorkel and one safety vest.
    • All items must be properly encased in a suitable container.
  • Ski &Water Ski 

    • Pre-advise EVA Air the weight and dimension of baggage in order to check if cargo compartment space is available at the time of booking.
    • Regardless of the actual dimensions may be considered as a piece of baggage at 158 cm/62 in (one piece only per passenger).
    • Including one pair of ski, one pair of ski poles, one pair of boots, or one snow board, one pair of boots, one pair of standard water skis or one slalom water ski.
    • Equipment must be securely encased in a suitable container.
  • Sporting Firearms & Ammunition

    • Pre-advise EVA Air Reservation office at least 5 working days prior to the date of travel.
    • Regardless of the actual dimensions may be considered as a piece of baggage at 158 cm/62 in (one piece only per passenger).
    • Must have the required documentation and licenses. This includes export/import licenses and authorization from local and national authorities (e.g. invitation letter).
    • Person’s own use only.
    • Consisting of no more than: (1)One rifle case containing no more than two rifles, 5 kg/11 lb of ammunition, one shooting mat, noise suppressors and small rifle tools, or (2)Two shotguns and two shotgun cases, 5 kg/11 lb of ammunition, or (3)One pistol case containing no more than 5(five) pistols, 5 kg/11 lb of ammunition, noise suppressors, one pistol telescope and small pistol tools (4)Ammunition is packed in either its original packaging or in a suitable container that prevents movement between shells or cartridges (i.e. loose ammunition is not permitted).
  • Surfboard Equipment / Windsurfing Equipment  
    • Pre-advise EVA Air at the time of booking.
    • Surfboards are allowed up to two (2) boards per bag.
    • Windsurfing Equipment including one board and one mast, wooden boom and sail.
    • Windsurfing equipment must be padded and enclosed in a suitable package sufficient to protect from scratches or dents or other damage during normal handling.
    • Shall be collected excess baggage charge by the length of each bag if it’s oversize than 158 cm. If the oversize bag is also involved extra piece or/and overweight, each charge should be collected. 
          

The way to charge an oversized fee for canoe/Hang-gliding Equipment/Kitesurfing Equipment/Paragliding Equipment/Windsurfing Equipment/Surfboard Equipment

Weight Concept: there will be an oversized fee if the length of the bag is over 158 cm

  • One bag up to 158 cm in length: No charge
  • One bag over 158 cm in length: Charge USD 150

Example:

If you are in Economy class (baggage allowance 30 kg) , carry 2 pieces of check-in baggage and 1 bag of surfboard (length 160 cm), total weight 35 kg, you will be charged 5 kg for excess baggage and USD150 for the oversized fee.

Piece Concept: there will be a fee if the bag is oversized or/and overweight

If a passenger is in Economy class and brings:

  • One bag (23 kg) up to 158 cm in length: No charge
  • One bag (23 kg) over 158 cm up to 203 cm in length: Charge USD 150/CAD 190 
  • One bag (23 kg) over 203 cm in length : Charge USD 300/CAD 380 
  • One bag (26 kg) over 203 cm in length: Charge USD 80/CAD 100 +USD 300/CAD 380=USD 382/CAD 480

Example:

  • If you are in Premium Economy class (baggage allowance 2PC), carry 1 piece of check-in baggage (22 kg) and 1 bag of surfboard (length 160 cm), you will be charged USD 150/CAD 190.
  • If you are in Economy class (baggage allowance 2PC), carry 2 pieces of check-in baggage (15 kg /21 kg) and 1 bag of surfboard (length 210 cm), you will be charged 1P plus USD 300/CAD 380.

Musical Instruments 

Checked Baggage
  • Musical instruments are handled as normal baggage. If the weight/dimension/piece exceeds the free baggage allowance, passenger needs to pay excess baggage fee.
  • Musical instruments carried as check-in baggage must be kept inside sturdy and protective hard cases. Musical instruments in soft bags (gig bags) will not be accepted.
  • Large-sized musical instruments such as double bass and cellos are accepted as checked baggage only if they cannot be accommodated in cabin. If the dimension and weight of the musical instrument can be accepted as Cabin Baggage (CBBG), you can purchase an extra seat for storing it in cabin instead of checking it in.
  • Passengers are required to sign limited release tags for all checked musical instruments due to their fragile nature.
Carry-on Baggage
  • Guitars or other small musical instruments (like violins, violas, flutes, clarinets, erhus or trombones etc.) can be accepted as free carry-on baggage items. Each passenger is allowed to hand carry one small musical instrument onboard only.
  • Musical instruments should be stored in hard cases with rounded edges. These items can be stowed properly in the overhead bins or under the seats, based on available space at the time of boarding. With the exception of certain disability assistance devices, overhead bins or under seat stowage space is available to all passengers for their carry-on baggage on a “first come, first served” basis or;
  • You can purchase an extra seat for storing it in cabin instead of stowing it in the overhead bin or under the seat. Please pre-advise EVA Air no later than 48 hours prior to flight departure. 
  • If there is no stowage space in cabin, the musical instrument will have to be checked-in. 
 ** Due to temperature variations, expansion and contraction of the neck of stringed instruments may occur. Passengers are advised to have the strings loosened to avoid damage. **

Pets

  • Accept dogs, cats and rabbits only.
  • Not included in free allowance. Pet(s) and their kennel or container, as checked baggage, will be charged as excess baggage. 
(1) Weight system: Charged by 1.5 times the total weight of of pet(s) together with kennel or container. 
(2) Piece system: 
     - Weight ≦32 kg: 2 units of excess baggage charge rate should be applied 
     - 32 kg<Weight≦42 kg : 4 units of excess baggage charge rate should be applied 
     - Weight>42 kg: 6 units of excess baggage charge rate should be applied 
 
     Note: More than 50 kg must be approved by EVA Air before departure.
  • Service animals (dogs, cats or rabbits) for any purpose like seeing-eye/hearing-aid dogs, seizure alert dogs etc. or emotional support animals(dogs only) will be carried free of charge without weight limits when they accompany passengers who depend upon these animals. Wheelchairs/Scooters/Mobility Aids/Assistive Devices

  • Included in free allowance (at no additional charge)
  • For usage of disabled passengers only.
  • Including wheelchairs/Scooters/Mobility Aids and Wheelchairs/Mobility Aids with batteries.
  • Assistive devices include walkers, respirators, ventilators, canes and crutches etc.
  • Only manual collapsible wheelchairs or other small assistive devices can be accepted as carry-on baggage, provided they can be accommodated consistent with government regulations.
  • According to EU legislation, passengers with reduced mobility are allowed to have two pieces of mobility equipment transported for free.

Unaccompanied Minors
The adult fare applicable for Unaccompanied Minor(s) should be purchased.
Stretcher
In addition to the passenger’s ticket, 6 times of highest one way normal economy adult fare will be charged.
Oxygen
USD 200.00 will be charged per bottle of oxygen and an additional seat must be purchased for the oxygen bottle occupying the seat. A maximum of two oxygen bottles may be accommodated in one seat.
Extra Seat for Passenger Comfort
Applicable fare ticket should be purchased.
Seat Upgrade
Upgrade purchase during booking - Up to USD 6,000 per flight per person. Upgrade purchase during in flight - Up to USD 6,000 per flight per person.
Award Ticket
