Aomori city is the capital of Aomori prefecture, located at the southern end of Aomori Bay. Aomori is a port which used to be the main departure point for the ferry to Hokkaido, but due to the opening of the Seikan Undersea Railway Tunnel, most travelers bypass the city when going to Hokkaido. The major attractions of Aomori city include the Asamushi Aquarium, the Asamushi Onsen, the Aomori Bay Bridge and Sukayu Onsen.
